After years of planning and permit applications, a proposed cohousing development in the fields below Valverde St. in Taos is finally moving forward. Developer-residents Bob Draper and Stephen Rose will begin seeking other residents, 55 years and older, for Valverde Commons, a sustainable intentional neighborhood just blocks from Taos Plaza.
The new development will have 28 lots and will surround four acres of common green space. An expanded, 10-acre Sunset Park along two sides of the development will border the property and be accessible to the public.
Nearly half of the 28 lots have been spoken for in the development that will include a common house with a kitchen for community gatherings and a community barn. Developers envision an "old fashioned neighborhood" in which older Taos residents can live in sustainably-built, privately owned homes, within easy walking distance of Taos¹ Historic District.
